Childrens Accident Compensation Claims UK
Accidents involving children are common. A child’s inquisitive nature means they have little fear of what’s around the next corner. Bumps and bruises are common place during every childhood; however, sometimes children are injured due to the negligence of others.
Accidents at school involving children
Suffering an injury as a child can be a scary experience. The pain threshold of a child is far lower than that of an adult. The whole experience can have a detrimental effect on confidence, happiness and general well being. If your child has had an accident that could have been prevented had sufficient supervision or guidance been properly exercised, they may be able to make a claim for compensation for the injuries they have suffered as a result.
My child has had an accident – What can be done?
Obviously there are circumstances in which an accident is just that, an accident. However some accidents can be prevented. If your child is in the care of someone else, they must show a duty of care towards them to ensure that they are safe, if they have not demonstrated this they may be deemed negligent.

Limitation – How long do we have to claim compensation?
The normal limitation period in which a claim for compensation can be brought against the guilty party in a personal injury claim is 3 years from the date of the accident. In the case of injury claims involving children this is fundamentally different. If a child, 18 years of age and under has an accident, you may bring a claim against the guilty party up to the age of 21. A court will rule that those persons under the age of 18 are not mentally sound to bring a claim on their own. If you are unsure if you can make a claim, contact us today and a member of our team will be more than happy to assist you with your enquiry.
